BLT

BASIC BLT ( BACON, LETTUCE AND TOMATO)

These are your basic ingredients.   Pretty straightforward!  Being from the south, we do use one “special” ingredient” …….DUKE’S MAYONNAISE!   Naturally, if you can’t get it in your neighborhood,  Hellman’s is a good substitute.

bacon
lettuce
bread
mayonnaise
tomato
black pepper

First, fry the bacon.    I usually start out with high heat to get the pan hot, then turn it down to medium.   This particular bacon is thick cut, but any variety will do.   4-6 slices at a time….. don’t overcrowd the pan.   So if you’re making several sandwiches (which is what you’ll want to do!!!), cook in batches.  Drain on paper towels.    Be sure to save the bacon grease, cause this stuff is like GOLD!!   It can be used for all kinds of seasoning!

Next, prepare the lettuce.  I usually slice off a sizable chunk.  (Now, if using a knife on your lettuce bothers you, you can tear it off!).  Wash well.  Separate and drain on paper towels.

Next, prepare the tomato.   First, throughly wash the tomato.   With a sharp knife, thinly slice the tomato starting on the bottom.   I usually slice thinly, because you can always put as many slices  as you like.   Funny, I’m not always a raw tomato girl, but in this case, the more the merrier!!  Naturally fresh tomatoes from the garden are best, but if not available, hot house are just about as good!!

Next, prepare your bread.   As mentioned earlier, I always use Duke’s mayonnaise, which is a southern favorite.   Spread evenly on both pieces of bread (I like it a little thick, but that’s a matter of taste!).

Next, assemble your sandwich.    This is the fun part!   Anyway is fine, but here goes!!

Don’t forget a little black pepper!!

Ok, here comes the best part!!    The BEST BLT in the world!!!    Or at least Tim thinks so!!   ENJOY!!!   It was worth it!!   And, if there’s any bacon left over, save it, and nibble to your heart’s content!!!!

NOW, THAT’s A HAPPY MAN!!!!
